    What the numbers are saying

    Pricing

You are roughly $12 under your floor

At $40 you cannot hit $4,500 income at 70% utilisation, no matter how hard you work. The math does not bend. Either the price rises, the hours rise, or the target moves.

    Capacity

Utilisation is the quiet number in the room

At 70% booked, every hour of an open day costs you $52 of required revenue when it sits empty. Improving utilisation by 10 points lowers the price you need to charge.

    Growth

Empty evenings are a pricing problem you already solved

Clients booking after hours fill slots you are not working to fill. An online booking link books while you sleep, at full price, with no back and forth.

    Recommended next action

Set your 60-minute service at $54 or higher

That is the price where $1,800 of costs and $4,500 of income are covered at realistic utilisation.

ZenSched lets you set per-service prices and durations, so the number you just calculated becomes the number clients actually see and book.

    What ZenSched automates

Turn the result into a calmer schedule

Once you know your floor, put the number to work. ZenSched lets you set per-service prices and durations, and fills more of those bookable hours with a page that takes bookings around the clock.

    Per-service pricing

Each service gets its own price, duration and buffer.

    Booking around the clock

Clients book your empty evening slots while you sleep.

    No commission

Flat plans only, so the floor you calculated is the money you keep.

    Practical guide

    Pricing from the floor up

Your floor is not a suggestion

The hourly floor is the rate where costs and your income are both covered at realistic utilisation. Every booking below it is a shift you partially pay to work. Pricing this way removes the guilt from charging properly, because the number comes from arithmetic, not confidence.

    Why utilisation belongs in pricing

    70%

A typical honest booking rate once gaps and admin are counted

    10 pts

Each 10-point utilisation gain lowers the price floor noticeably

    24/7

An online booking page fills hours you are not working to fill

    Costs people forget to include

    • Rent or chair fee, including the weeks you take off.
    • Products, laundry and disposables per service.
    • Card processing and booking software fees.
    • Insurance, licenses and tax set-asides.
    • Marketing time, because unpaid hours are still a cost.

Raising a price without losing clients

    1. 01

Set the new price for new clients first

Your booking page updates in one place, so new clients book at the new rate while regulars get notice.

    2. 02

Give regulars a date, not a debate

A short message, 'prices move to X from March 1', respects the relationship and the arithmetic.

    3. 03

Hold the line for a month

A small dip in bookings after a rise is normal. Check the numbers after four weeks, not four days.

    FAQ

    Questions about this tool

    What is an hourly floor?+

The minimum you must earn per booked hour for the business to cover its costs and pay you the income you entered. It is a floor, not a target. Premium work should sit above it.

Why does utilisation change my price so much?+

Because you only earn during booked hours. At 70% utilisation, a third of your available time earns nothing, so the booked hours must carry the whole month.

Should I round the suggested price up or down?+

Up. The calculator already assumes honest utilisation, so rounding down silently undercuts your own floor. Prices ending in 9 or 5 are fine, as long as they sit above the minimum.

    How often should I re-run this?+

Any time costs, hours or your income goal change, and at least twice a year. Most underpricing happens because a price set two years ago never moved.

    Is my data stored?+

No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser and nothing is sent or saved.
