How to Add a Booking Link to Instagram (Bio, Stories and DMs)
Step-by-step: add a booking link to your Instagram bio, the Book button, Stories and DMs, so followers book you without the back-and-forth messages.
A nail tech we spoke to counted her DMs one Sunday night. Forty two messages. Most of them were the same three questions: how much is a full set, are you free Saturday, and what is your address. She answered every one by hand, and about a third of those people never booked anyway.
Instagram is where most beauty, grooming and tattoo clients find you now. But Instagram was not built to take bookings. A link fixes that. Put a booking link in the right places and the "are you free?" conversation turns into a booking that lands in your calendar while you sleep. This guide shows exactly where to put it and how to set each one up.
Why a booking link beats "DM to book"
"DM to book" feels personal, and for a while it works. Then it stops scaling.
Every DM booking is a small negotiation. The client asks, you reply hours later, they have already booked someone else, or you offer a time and they ghost. Clients also hesitate to DM a stranger. A surprising number of people would rather tap a button than start a conversation.
A booking link removes both problems. The client sees your services, your prices and your real open times, picks one, and gets a confirmation email. You get the booking without typing a word. You can still chat with regulars, you just stop doing scheduling by hand.
Every message you send to arrange a time is a message you are not getting paid for.
Step 1: Get a booking link that works on a phone
Before Instagram, you need the link itself. What matters:
- It opens fast on a phone. Instagram opens links in its own browser. A slow, desktop-style page loses people.
- Clients book without making an account. Every extra step costs bookings.
- It shows real availability. Only times you are actually free, respecting breaks and buffers between clients.
- It sends a confirmation and a reminder. So you are not chasing people the night before.
- It does not take a cut. Some marketplaces charge a commission on clients. Your own Instagram followers are your clients, not theirs.
ZenSched gives you a booking page at your own link on the free plan, with services, durations, buffer times, custom questions clients answer when they book, and automatic confirmation and reminder emails. Whatever tool you use, check it against the list above.
Step 2: Put the link in your bio
This is the one that matters most. Your bio link is visible on every visit to your profile.
- Open your profile and tap Edit profile.
- Tap Links, then Add external link.
- Paste your booking link and give it a title like "Book an appointment".
- If you have several links, drag the booking link to the top.
Then change your bio text so people know what the link is for. "Book below" works. So does a line with your area and specialty, then the call to action:
Gel and acrylic nails in Leeds Tues to Sat, by appointment Book your set below
If you are stuck on wording, our free Instagram bio generator writes a few options for your trade with the booking line built in.
Step 3: Add the Book button
Professional accounts can add an action button under the bio. It is more visible than the link, and it looks official.
- Switch to a professional account if you have not: Settings, Account type and tools, Switch to professional account. It is free.
- Go to Edit profile, Action buttons (on some versions this is under Contact options).
- Choose Book now or Reserve.
- If your booking tool is not in Instagram's partner list, choose the option to add a website link and paste your booking link.
Instagram changes these menus often, so the exact names may differ on your phone. If you cannot find the action button, the bio link alone still does the job.
Step 4: Use link stickers in Stories
Stories are where you show fresh work, and fresh work is when people decide they want an appointment. Catch them right then.
- Post a Story with a recent result.
- Tap the sticker icon and choose Link.
- Paste your booking link and change the sticker text to something specific, like "Book this set".
- Place it where thumbs naturally rest, lower middle of the screen.
Two habits help a lot. First, post a "spots this week" Story when you have gaps, with the link sticker. Second, save a Book Highlight on your profile with one Story that explains how booking works and includes the link. New followers check Highlights.
Step 5: Save a quick reply for DMs
People will still DM. That is fine. Answer in two taps.
- In a DM, tap the + or the quick reply icon (on some versions: Settings, Business tools, Saved replies).
- Create a new saved reply with a shortcut like "book".
- Write something short and warm:
Hi! Thanks for reaching out. You can see all my prices and open times here and book whichever suits you: [your link]. Any questions, just ask.
Next time someone asks "are you free Saturday?", type the shortcut and send. The client sees every open Saturday slot at once, which is faster for them too.
- Booking link is the first link in your bio, titled clearly
- Bio text tells people to book through the link
- Book now or Reserve action button is set up
- A Book Highlight explains how booking works
- Stories with fresh work include a link sticker
- A saved DM reply sends your link in two taps
- Your booking page loads fast and works on a phone
Link-in-bio pages: when they help and when they hurt
Tools like Linktree let you put many links behind one bio link. That is useful if you sell products, run a course and take bookings. But if booking is the main thing you want, a link-in-bio page adds a tap between interest and booking, and every tap loses a few people.
Our rule of thumb: if more than half your Instagram goal is appointments, link straight to the booking page. If you do need several links, put booking first and make it the biggest button.
Make the booking page match your Instagram
The jump from your feed to your booking page should not feel like a different business. Use the same logo, a colour that matches your grid, and clear service names with prices. Clients who arrive from a polished feed and land on a generic form wonder if they are in the right place.
In ZenSched you can set your logo, colours and fonts on your booking page so it feels like an extension of your profile. You can also add custom questions, like nail length or "do you have a reference photo?", so you know what you are walking into before the client arrives.
Measure what works
After a few weeks, look at where your bookings come from. Most booking tools show the date a booking was made, so compare against the days you posted Stories with a link sticker. If "spots this week" Stories reliably fill gaps, post them every Monday. If the Book button outperforms the bio link, mention it in your captions.
Small changes add up. Moving the booking link to the top of your bio, adding one saved reply and posting one link Story a week is often the difference between a full Saturday and three empty slots.
Where ZenSched fits
If you do not have a booking link yet, or yours is slow, clunky or takes a commission, ZenSched was built for exactly this. The free plan gives you a booking page at your own link, set up in about ten minutes, that you can paste into your bio the same day. No commission on any booking, on any plan.
See how the Instagram booking link works, then start with the bio link. Add the rest over the next week, and enjoy the quieter inbox.
Frequently asked questions
FAQ
Where do I put a booking link on Instagram?+
In four places: the link field in your bio, the Book or Reserve action button on a professional account, link stickers in your Stories, and saved replies in your DMs. The bio link does most of the work, the other three catch people at the moment they want to book.
Do I need a business account to add a booking link?+
Anyone can add a link to their bio. To get the action button (Book now, Reserve) you need a professional account, either Creator or Business. Switching is free in your Instagram settings.
Should I use a link-in-bio page or a direct booking link?+
If booking is the main thing you want people to do, link straight to your booking page. Every extra tap loses some people. Use a link-in-bio page only if you genuinely need several links, and put booking at the top.
Can clients book from Instagram without leaving the app?+
They tap the link and your booking page opens in Instagram's built-in browser, so it feels like they never left. That is why your booking page must load fast and work well on a phone.
How do I stop answering 'how much and when are you free' DMs?+
Save a quick reply in Instagram with your booking link and a one-line price note. When someone asks, tap the saved reply. Your booking page shows real available times and prices, so the conversation ends in a booking instead of ten messages.
Is there a free booking link I can use on Instagram?+
Yes. ZenSched's free plan gives you a booking page at your own link with services, prices, available times and email confirmations and reminders, with no commission on bookings.
